Drought has struck large agricultural areas of Somalia, causing a large wave of displacement of citizens recently, after the destruction of their agricultural and livestock crops and the lack of basic necessities for living.
According to reports from humanitarian associations, organizations, and interested media outlets, about 6 million Somalis have been displaced to various states and cities, most of them heading to Mogadishu.
These reports focus on the dire humanitarian situation of displaced people in Mogadishu, who lack basic necessities such as shelter, food, and medicine, in the clear absence of any role for authority of President Hassan Sheikh and his government.
Mahmoud Moalim Abdullah , head of the Somali Disaster Management Authority, confirmed , saying: “We are aware of the suffering of the displaced people as a result of the drought, but the scale of the problem exceeds our capabilities”.

In turn , Mahmoud Moalim called on philanthropists inside Somalia and in the brotherly Arab countries to provide humanitarian aid to the displaced.
Videos circulating show the misery of displaced families in dilapidated camps in Mogadishu after they lost their farmland and huge numbers of their animals due to the severe drought .
One of the displaced women said : “Because of hunger, we left our village after the drought destroyed the little we had to live on, which was livestock and a farm, and we are now in dire need of water and food”.

Displaced citizen Hassan Adam tragically recounts his displacement with his family after the death of 100 cows owned, saying: “Our livestock perished, the drought destroyed everything, and we were forced to flee after we had nothing left. To this day, neither we nor our children have received any assistance, and the situation is dire .”
Despite the efforts of some charities to provide them with humanitarian aid, this is not enough in light of the complete absence of the government’s role in Mogadishu .
Observers describe that while the government claims to be moving towards comprehensive development reform in Somalia, it has not taken any action on the ground to address the deteriorating conditions of citizens, even within the geographical boundaries of the capital, Mogadishu. Therefore, it appears in a strange paradox, considering its statements regarding the development approach in various political forums, and considering only the living conditions of the citizens of the capital, Mogadishu .
