Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed offered his congratulations to Muslims in Ethiopia and Muslims around the world on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr .
He expressed through his social media accounts that this religious occasion represents the culmination of the month of Ramadan, which is full of the spirit of solidarity and cooperation .
Abiy Ahmed added that the atmosphere of Eid al-Fitr embodies deep values within the Ethiopian society, which is based on religious and cultural diversity, and represents peace, cooperation, and solidarity in supporting the needy groups in society .
Prime Minister called on citizens to continue the spirit of compassion and solidarity that is ingrained in them during the month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, praising the positive behaviors that citizens have shown during the days of Ramadan, represented in discipline, patience and commitment, hoping that the same behaviors will be reflected in the national spirit, in particular at the democratic process represented by the upcoming general elections .
He referred to the upcoming general elections in June 2026 as a pivotal moment in Ethiopia’s democratic journey, calling on citizens to participate actively and responsibly .
He continued by saying that the challenges to the path of democratic transition were great, and they were overcome with patience, effort and perseverance, citing that the lessons of Ramadan show that patience and perseverance lead to success .
Also, He pointed out that weak participation in elections leads to a weak and limited democracy, and that democracy does not exist in the presence of conflict and division, but rather in the presence of cooperation, respect for the law and a sense of responsibility .
At the end of his message, Abiy Ahmed renewed his congratulations and wished that Eid al-Fitr would mark a new beginning filled with peace, love and optimism among the people, to continue the journey towards development, progress and stability .
