Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates, participated yesterday, Thursday, in the Transport and Logistics Forum held in the city of St. Petersburg, Russian Federation, from April 1-3.
This forum came against the backdrop of discussions on the current challenges to global energy transport, particularly the armed escalation between Iran, the United States and Israel, which has created dimensions of the energy crisis and a slowdown in global trade due to Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
During his participation in the forum, Suhail Al Mazrouei suggested adopting a proactive and clear approach to dealing with geopolitical challenges and the need for all countries to commit to ensuring the security of the main waterways linking the countries of the world, and to create flexibility in supply chains.
Al Mazrouei explained that the rapid geopolitical changes, especially in vital sea lanes, are imposing a new reality on the global trade system, which necessitates that the global community invent new and modern ways and means of transporting trade and supplying energy.
The forum began with an opening speech by Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which he stressed that Russia is working on the digitalization of the transport market and the development of logistics with pilot systems, expressing Russia’s readiness to exchange experiences and establish joint programs in the field of science and technology to create a modern transport system that keeps pace with the twenty-first century.
During the opening ministerial session for participating ministers from several countries, Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei presented the UAE’s vision for modernizing a transport system with integrated logistics that has the ability to be flexible and adapt to various conditions and increasing global challenges.
Al Mazrouei called for joint international action to ensure freedom of navigation and secure supply lines, and to recognize the gravity of Iran’s potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz, given its targeting of commercial vessels and energy tankers, creating an unprecedented threat to supply chains and impacting global market stability, which would lead to increased prices. Goods and services.
Regarding the war and Iranian attacks, the UAE Ministry of Defense stated, today on friday, april 3, 2026, that its air defenses intercepted 18 ballistic missiles, 4 cruise missiles, and 47 drones coming from Iran, by engaging them in the air. The ministry did not mention any damage resulting from today’s attack.
