Official media outlets affiliated with the central authority in Mogadishu reported on Monday that an extraordinary meeting of the Somali Council of Ministers was held, chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, during which a number of decisions were issued concerning government bodies and departments.
The Council also approved the promotion of Mr. Nur Mahmoud Sheikh to the rank of Ambassador, in response to the recommendations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs within the framework of supporting diplomatic competencies to enhance Somali external representation.
The meeting concluded with an affirmation of the government’s commitment to continuing its reform programs across various sectors, in order to serve stability and development in the country.
The Cabinet issued a decision appointing a Director General for the Somali Immigration and Citizenship Authority, based on the nomination of the Ministry of Internal Security, approving Mr. Hussein Qasim Yusuf as Director of the Authority.
The Cabinet was also briefed on the latest details of the security situation on the ground in the country, and on the latest current military developments between the armed forces and armed groups, in addition to the government efforts made in the areas of environment and afforestation.
On the legislative level, the Cabinet approved the content of the executive regulations related to the general amnesty, submitted by the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, with the aim of strengthening the national legal aspect.
The council concluded its meeting by emphasizing the government’s continued commitment to implementing administrative reforms across various sectors, for the sake of stability and development in the country.
Observers describe that the Mogadishu government has recently become preoccupied with internal reforms, such as appointments, promotions, and decrees, while citizens continue to suffer from hunger, unemployment, and marginalization. This is particularly true for Somalis displaced to Mogadishu due to drought, and thousands of citizens migrating to neighboring countries in the Horn of Africa in search of a livelihood, leaving the average citizen among the lowest in the world in terms of per capita income.
