The president of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi “Aro”, has again called on the Somali government to recognize the region’s independence, adding that there is no option for reaching a solution other than full independence for Somaliland.
President “Aro” made this call through his annual speech before the Somaliland parliament, explaining his government’s political orientations and its firm stance regarding the future of Somaliland, and the ongoing struggle until independence is achieved .
“ The only solution , and there is no alternative, is for Somalia to recognize our independence so that we remain two sisterly countries with mutual relations and good neighborliness. We have no objection to achieving these relations, but what is important first is to accept the fact that there is no escaping the independence of the state of Somaliland,” president Aro said.
“Somaliland is continuing its diplomatic struggle until it achieves full recognition as a state,” Aru said, adding that achieving independence is a goal to which both the people and government of Somaliland are committed, and that it will be achieved in the near future.
It is worth noting that Somaliland has been demanding independence through international recognition for 35 years, and continues to demand, sometimes to the international community, and other times to the Mogadishu government, that it be given the full right to declare its fate. This comes after the Israeli recognition that caused a wide uproar in the East, and there are indications of signs of United States of America towards full recognition of independence.
