Relief operations in Sudan are facing a frantic race against time and gunpowder; as the seasonal rains approach to impose their natural siege, the targeting of what remains of strategic bridges and roads is accelerating, threatening to cut off the last lifelines for millions of civilians.
In its latest field assessment, the UN humanitarian team sounded the alarm, stressing that the systematic escalation against vital civilian infrastructure not only disrupts relief convoys, but also throws civilians into unprecedented danger.
Darfur: ” Hash ” Arrives and Bombings Occur Along the Border:
On the western supply lines, aid convoys resumed their movement on the (Geneina – Zalingei) road linking West and Central Darfur, after a temporary paralysis imposed by community tensions and security lapses. Despite this breakthrough, the Deputy Spokesperson for the United Nations, Farhan Haq, described the situation there as “still very fragile”.
This fragility is evident in what happened in West Darfur last night, where explosions targeted the strategic “ Ardamata ” bridge . This bridge is not just a concrete block, but the nerve center of commercial and humanitarian movement that connects the city of El Geneina with the border areas with Chad, and the “ OCHA ” office relies on it as a main route for transporting supplies to Darfur and Kordofan.
South Kordofan : Rain and Gunpowder Besiege Kadugli “Wudling“:
The situation in South Kordofan appears more complex, as weekend attacks destroyed two key bridges on the road linking the cities of Kadugli and And in Dulling , as this destruction came at a very critical time with the beginning of the autumn season.
UN sources relayed warnings and concerns from humanitarian partners about the ” complete isolation ” of the region, given the lack of any alternative routes that can be used once the seasonal rains intensify, which means a forced halt to relief operations and the movement of civilians.
A Renewed International Appeal:
In the face of this accelerating deterioration, the United Nations renewed its strong call to all actors on the ground to keep civilians out of harm’s way, protect service facilities, and ensure the rapid, safe, and sustainable flow of humanitarian aid without any obstacles.
