Somali President Hassan Sheikh delivered a speech on Saturday in the Italian capital , Rome, during the second Italian-African Summit .
In his speech, he emphasized the importance of sovereignty and its respect by other countries, noting that sovereignty comes first for the state, and that the state cannot achieve development, security and stability without it.
President Hassan Sheikh said that the current stage of cooperation must go beyond the traditional model, stressing the need to prioritize the African continent and apply the concept of sovereignty to the actual reality, as he affirmed that “real development and progress begins with respecting countries and their independence . “
He pointed out that the experience between Italy and Somalia has proven successful in investing in key areas such as education, infrastructure, and the establishment of institutions, and stressed that the concept of “sovereignty first” is not a political slogan but a concept embodied on the ground in a way that is consistent with the needs and aspirations of the people.
He praised the priorities of the Somali people, which are based on resilience and facing challenges, combating unemployment, ensuring food security, and striving to integrate Somalia’s economy into the regional and global marketing, noting that only balanced cooperation is required to achieve the desired goals .
The President condemned any unilateral actions that violate Somalia’s sovereignty and fragment it , calling on the international community to declare its rejection of all forms of foreign interference and the undermining of trust between nations.
This summit was held two years after the first summit, and it came back to the forefront with a clearer and more balanced vision.
