Two Sudanese shepherds were killed last Thursday by gunfire from Russian forces stationed near the border between Darfur and the Central African Republic, according to residents of the Um Dafuq area .
Eyewitnesses told local media that the attack was carried out from the direction of the “Barrels” area between Central African lands, towards the Sudanese border area of Karkar, explaining that the two citizens killed were named Othman Mohamed Koueh and Daoud Issa , both from the Fulani tribe residing in Karkar.
The civilian administration of the Rapid Support Forces condemned the repeated attacks by groups affiliated with Russian forces allied with the Central African authorities on unarmed Sudanese citizens, considering such brutal attacks on civilians in Sudanese territory a violation of national sovereignty and international norms, by infiltrating Sudanese borders.
Eyewitnesses from among the herders confirmed that Russian groups present inside the Central African Republic during the past months, on numerous occasions, targeted Sudanese herders near the border strip, claiming that they had crossed the border lands while carrying weapons.
The western borders of Sudan fall under the control of the Rapid Support Forces, as they, along with the city of Umm Dafun, are the closest Sudanese point bordering the Central African Republic.
