“ TASIS ” Alliance accused Sudanese authorities in Port Sudan of detaining a huge humanitarian convoy belonging to the World Food Programme in the city of Al-Dabba in the Northern State.
The detained convoy includes 160 trucks loaded with approximately 6,194 tons of food and medical supplies, which were on their way to provide relief to civilians in areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces in Darfur and parts of Kordofan.
Administrative Conflict Disrupts Relief Efforts:
According to a statement issued by the Alliance, the trucks were moving in prior coordination with the “Sudanese Agency for Relief and Humanitarian Operations ” ( the humanitarian arm of the Rapid Support Forces ) before being stopped by government authorities in Al-Dabba.
This measure comes in line with the directives issued by the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the beginning of May, which prohibited UN agencies and international organizations from dealing with the Rapid Support Forces Humanitarian Agency.
The government warning came in response to requirements imposed by the Rapid Support Forces in April 2026, obliging organizations to register with them within a month and open headquarters in their areas of influence within 45 days.
This comes despite Salma Ishaq, Minister of State at the Ministry of Human Resources Development and Social Welfare, having previously stated in a press release that the Sudanese government is committed to protecting civilians and ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid as a top priority.
UN Warns of Imminent Famine:
These administrative and field complications coincide with extremely serious warnings issued by three UN agencies on May 15, 2026 , revealing that nearly 19 million people in Sudan are now facing the specter of food insecurity.
UN agencies also warned that around 850,000 children could reach the stage of acute malnutrition in the next few months, renewing their call for the parties to the conflict to immediately cease hostilities and open safe corridors for aid.
A Fourth Year of Suffering and Continued Displacement:
As the armed conflict in Sudan enters its fourth year with no signs of a solution, the economic and humanitarian suffering of refugees and displaced persons is worsening to an unprecedented degree.
The International Organization for Migration has recorded the return of about 4 million people to their areas between 2025 and 2026 , in addition to the fact that the continuation of drone attacks still poses a direct and ongoing threat to the lives of civilians in several states.
