The Rapid Support Forces carried out On Saturday, five professors from a university faculty were released after being detained for several days in Central Darfur State on suspicion of security concerns, according to local sources.
The sources explained that the release was carried out after simple security procedures without offending their personal considerations and in response to their families’ demands for their release, and because academics have societal immunity and scientific standing.
Security officials denied claims circulating in Sudanese military media that there was pressure to release them.
The officials added that the detention was based on security information about their possible involvement in cooperating with the army forces, and that the investigation was conducted with all respect and without prejudice to their academic standing, while giving them the right to defend and respond before the authorized security and judicial authorities, like any citizen whose rights and dignity are preserved.
Officials stated that the idea of releasing them reflects the goodwill of the Rapid Support Forces and represents a humanitarian gesture amidst the security conditions and complexities of the war the country is going through .
