international organization “Save the Children” issued a humanitarian statement with statistics of about 1,200 Yemeni killed and wounded since beginning of the truce declared by United Nations in 2022, stressing that since the implementation of the truce, which has been extended several times, it has not been reflected on the ground to reduce material and human losses .
The organization explained in its statement: “Statistics recorded between April 2022 and March 2026 indicate that 1,182 children have died.” Between killing and injury as a result of armed violence, the explosive landmine and war remnants topped the list of causes in the statistics, exceeding 43% of the total number of child victims.
The organization added that the statistics show an alarming increase of about 12% in the number of young victims of explosives when compared to the period between 2018 and 2021, to give an indication of the danger threatening civilians even with a relative cessation of fighting.
Also, the organization pointed to the possibility of the situation worsening in light of escalating tensions in Red Sea region, the country entering into extensive and exhausting military confrontations, and the potential for undermining the modest gains embodied in the reduction of armed conflict over the past four years.
The organization expressed its concern in the statement regarding the real risks expected of the emergence of signs of a large-scale war in Yemen and the Red Sea, which would expose the lives of children to greater danger and deepen the roots of the existing humanitarian crisis.
The organization cited the latest targeting of the Iftar-Prep gathering with an artillery shell last March in the “Hiran” area of Hajjah Governorate in northern Yemen, leaving eight dead, most of them children, considering it the most deadly targeting, according to the organization’s statement, and a blatant attack on civilians since the beginning of this year.
The international organization issued a humanitarian appeal calling on the warring parties to heed their consciences, reduce armed conflict, and prohibit the use of explosive weapons in populated areas, urging them to capitalize on the truce and comply with peace initiatives, while providing a suitable environment to assist victims and raise their awareness of the dangers, especially given the recent decline and reduction in international humanitarian aid to Yemen.
The international organization “Save the Children” also launched a call for an immediate cessation of all hostilities throughout Yemen, and for avoiding involvement in regional conflicts to prevent a return to the starting point of the conflict.
